The National Geospatial-Intelligence Alumni Association

Background

The NGAA was founded in the summer of 2011 for employees and retirees who have been associated with the National Geospatial-Intelligence Agency (NGA) and its predecessor organizations. The Association operates in a non-profit mode. It is organized and shall be exclusively operated for continued social interaction, pleasure, recreation, educational and any other purpose for the benefit of its Chapters and their members.

The Association was created by the merger in July 2011 of two geographically-based (East and West) organizations with a long history as retiree-oriented groups. The merger took the form of the consolidation of the two groups as chapters, respectively NGAA-West and NGAA-East.

The initial Association Board of Directors consists of four members, with two-each designated by the two chapters. The Association’s constitution addresses general over-arching policy; the chapters have their individual by-laws addressing their respective operational practices. The new Association was acknowledged by the Agency in a letter of encouragement received from the Director, NGA.  NGAA became operational in January 2012, and a Board of Directors formed with the appointment of two representatives each from the NGAA-West and NGAA-East chapters.

The sequence of membership of the Board since its formation is SHOWN HERE.

The Chapters

NGAA-East (formerly the National Geospatial Intelligence Alumni Association (NGIAA) founded in 1980 as the Defense Mapping and Charting Alumni (DMCA) Association) currently has over 400 active members who meet twice a year in the Washington area for a spring and fall luncheon, and an occasional out-of-town reunion. They also receive a newsletter and e-mail announcements which notify members of alumni events, fun facts and milestones met by fellow members.

Since its formation in 1980, members meet regularly and socialize through association sponsored luncheons four times a year. A newsletter is published a month before each meeting to report on several former NGA Alumni groups (i,e. Photographers, AIS's, Points, etc.) and individual members. In addition, members are active in bowling leagues and golf outings.
